If you’re a cat lover and owner, then you’re well aware of how unpleasant litter box scooping can be. After all, who really looks forward to scooping poop everyday? The smell, the mess, the clean up afterwards – it’s all a bit of a hassle. Even worse, it’s an unnecessary hassle at that! The automatic litter box can take all of that daily unpleasantness out of your life for good!

Can you imagine that?

No more daily smell, scooping, bagging, sweeping, etc.!

While there are quite a number of different designs available, the basic technology of the automatic cat litter box is that it utilizes a motorized skimmer that slides across the litter (once the cat has left the premises of course.) As it slides, it collects the clumps left behind by your cat. Some automatic litter boxes use a weight sensor to “figure out” when your cat has exited the box while others use movement sensors, much like the ones used in public bathrooms on faucets, towel dispensers and toilets. Once the clumps are gathered, they’re normally deposited in a container or bag lined area. Of course, models vary greatly and so too do their mechanisms and price points as well.

Cleaning the automatic litter box is usually a simple process of emptying a bag or container, refilling the litter (which should probably be done around every 3 days or so) and for stuck on clumps (which some models claim won’t occur) the box will need to be emptied and rinsed with a hose (just like a traditional litter box.)

When it comes to prices, some are a few hundred dollars such as the Litter Robot which retails for just over $300 and some are far less pricey retailing at around $100. There are also less automated designs that are well under $100 but of course are not “automatic” and require human assistance to actually remove the clumps with a push or a twist of the box. There are also many automatic litter box models that are available with accessories or additional replacement parts such as dome covers, mechanism replacements, scratching apparatuses and litter catching rugs. The Cat Genie is a good example of this. read up on Cat Genie reviews to get more information. Keep in mind when considering an automatic litter box, that they need to be plugged in for power. Therefore, your box placement will have to be near a low on the wall plug area where your cat won’t have access to the plug wire.

By simplifying your life and keeping things fresh and tidy for your furry feline, the dog might be man’s best friend, but the automatic litter box is sure to become your cat’s best friend.
